Un Uncommon Life |
Who Jesus Is: What Jesus Taught: Why It Matters None of us wake up each day hoping to be common/ordinary. We all want our days/lives to count. God holds out the possibility of living an uncommon life. That possibility is wrapped up in following Jesus who is the author/pioneer of uncommon living. The uncommon life of Jesus is the topic/focus of my next sermon series and I am thrilled with what we will be learning. My delight in this series is grounded in four realities. First, it will reinforce good Bible study habits. The first rule of Bible study is to understand the original meaning of the text. In this study we will look at the original context and meaning of Jesus' life. We will explore the historical setting of the ancient Jewish/Biblical world. We will discover how Jesus was perceived by His contemporaries and how that impacts the meaning of who He is and what He taught. Second, its another strategic part of this year's preaching plan. When I began the year, I intended to be much more intentional about the balance between doctrine, life issues; Old Testament, New Testament, etc. The outline of year so far has been:
Now, this fall, we will do an extensive New Testament study of the life of Christ. It will serve as a wonderful piece of a year that for me has been an especially meaningful year of preparation and study. Third, it fits our vision of being a spiritual home for anyone who comes through our doors. As a spiritual home we want to be a secure place where people can explore and discover a relationship with Jesus Christ. This study will feed that exploration and allow us to go deep in our relationship with Him. Fourth, I am convinced that when we see, know, discover the uncommon life of Jesus, it will free us to discover our calling to an uncommon life of Kingdom impact. So, I am excited/thrilled with this opportunity to unpack this uncommon life as we look at fall. Who Jesus is, What He taught and why it matters. We begin September 21. |

Our purpose, according to God's Word, is to share the
Good News of God's love in Christ Jesus with the world, beginning with the
people of our community. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we
will seek to lead people to conversion, baptism, and a maturing relationship
with Jesus Christ, through worship, outreach, discipleship, fellowship and
opportunities to serve.
